Word explanations
Asylum seeker = a person who claims to be a refugee and who has submitted an application for asylum, but whose case has not yet been examined by the authorities in the country where they are seeking protection.
Disability = a physical, mental, or intellectual impairment in functional ability caused by illness, another condition, a congenital or acquired injury, which may be permanent or temporary/transitory.
Physical disability = an impairment of the musculoskeletal system or bodily function in a person due to injuries or illness.
Mental disability = a mental condition that affects a person’s functional ability, such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, anxiety, and depression
Cognitive disability = an impairment that affects the person’s cognitive abilities, such as intellectual disability (ID), autism, ADHD, language disorder.
Assistive device = a tool or product that makes everyday life easier when you have a disability, e.g., a wheelchair or a hearing aid.
Medical transport = a journey to or from healthcare that you can get help paying for or arranging if you are ill.
Case officer = a person who works at a government agency and makes decisions or helps with cases.
