Assistive devices – children

Assistive devices for children and young people

Children and young people under the age of 18 who are asylum seekers have the right to the same health care and dental care as children and young people who are resident in Sweden. This includes aids needed to enable the child and young person to function in everyday life – for example, glasses, hearing aids, wheelchairs, orthoses, communication aids or other medical aids.

The region covers the cost and provides the aid.

To start the process:

Call the region's 1177 Care Guide and explain that it concerns asylum-seeking children/youth with disabilities who need assistive devices. You will then be directed to the correct reception. Staff at the accommodation or the Swedish Migration Board can also help.

Important: The child/youth needs to show their LMA card so that the region can register that it is care for an asylum-seeking child/youth.
