Transport

Regional and local public transport is usually accessible to some extent, for example through special seating for wheelchairs, ramps and vehicles that can be raised/lowered when boarding and alighting.

 

There is no automatic right to free transport for adult asylum seekers. However, asylum seekers are often entitled to a reduced fee for travel to and from meetings that need to be made within the framework of the Swedish Migration Board's efforts.

 

Asylum seekers are also entitled to a reduced fee, like everyone else in Sweden, for transport to emergency care and care that cannot wait. Compensation/fee varies depending on the region.

 

You contact: The staff at your accommodation and ask them to help you book a sick leave if you cannot go to the healthcare facility by public transport or your own car. They can also help you with the application for a reduced fee both with the region for sick leave and with them themselves through a "special grant for additional costs".

 

Remember: Always have your LMA card to hand. Always save receipts, medical summonses, and write down the mileage if you have driven your own car, to be entitled to a reduced fee for certain trips.
